Sweater designed to be worn with 8”–10” (20–25 cm) of positive ease in the body and 4” (10 cm) of positive ease in the sleeves. This is an oversize sweater, so don’t be afraid to size up.

Expression Fiber Arts Restore Chunky yarn (109 yds/100 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein)

Shown in colors: A) Beam and B) Invigorate

Skeins needed A: 8 (8, 9, 9) [10, 11, 11] {12, 12, 13, 13} 14

Skeins needed B: 3 (3, 3, 3) [3, 4, 4] {4, 4, 4, 4} 4

Intermediate - This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include color placement, basic shaping, and blocking techniques.

Notes from the Designer:

Time to get excited about cold temperatures! This oversize chunky sweater will have you wishing for snow and ice and all things cold. Knit on big needles with chunky yarn, Wintergladden is a relatively quick knit, and you’ll be delighted to cozy up in it. Finally, something to be glad about for winter! 

  • The sample shown was made in a size 3 and is modeled on a 34” (86 cm) bust with 10” (25 cm) of positive ease.
  • The sweater is worked from side to side.
  • Color changes are NOT listed in the pattern, since all sizes work a different number of rows. This is the color change order: Every 2, 8, 10, 4, 6, and 12 rows of MC, work 1 row of CC in that order. For example, work 2 rows MC, 1 row CC, 8 rows MC, 1 row CC, and so forth.
  • You can carry the CC across the entire project (unless the skein runs out) without ever cutting it because you always return to the edge where you last left off to work the CC again. You can also stripe various colors, which is a great way to use scrap yarn, so feel free to play with color.
  • If you use a knitted cast on, purl the first row, and then knit every row thereafter.
  • Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7] {8, 9, 10, 11} 12 correspond to the following bust measurements: 26 (30, 34, 38) [42, 46, 50] {54, 58, 62, 66} 70”/ 66 (76, 86.5, 96.5) [106.5, 117, 127] {137, 147.5, 157.5, 167.5} 178 cm and are formatted throughout the pattern as such.
  • You may select the size of the pockets you add: Small is 4” (10 cm) W x 6” (15 cm) H; Medium is 8” (20.5 cm) W by 11” (28 cm) H; and Large is 10.5” (26.5 cm) W by 13” (33 cm) H.
