SKILL LEVEL:

Advanced: For the adventurous crocheter who loves to tackle something a bit more complicated. Skills/concepts include garment sizing, seaming, post stitches, working stitches out of order, applying snap button closures, and alternating skeins throughout project to maintain color consistency.

Notes from the Designer:

I was sitting on the beach admiring the waves with my yarn in hand wondering about my next project, when a traditional hawker approached me with wicker baskets. The alternation of their blending waves inspired me to make a wicker-mimicking crochet project. She offered me a wicker basket for my yarn, and from there, I started the Wicker Tank! This adorable tank can be worn by itself or over a blouse for a fun, layered look.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a video demonstrating how to work the special stitches featured in this pattern.
  • Please read through the entire pattern before beginning to ensure understanding of the stitches and construction.
  • Gauge is very important in order to make the correct finished size.
  • The body is worked in rows, forming a tall rectangle. The rectangle is then turned sideways, and the edges are folded in, meeting at what will become the button band.
  • To adjust length, add/remove sts to/from the cast-on row in multiples of 4. NOTE: Altering the cast-on number will also require adjustments to the placement of closures and total yardage.
  • To adjust circumference, add/remove repeats of Rows 4 - 5 in the Body section. NOTE: Altering the number of rows will also require adjustments to the placement of straps and total yardage.
  • Pattern is written for six sizes: (XS, S, M) (L, XL, 2XL). Instructions will be in this format, as will stitch counts at the end of most rows. If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. If no stitch count is given, there was no change from previous row.
  • Sdc counts as a dc throughout the pattern.
  • The X-Fpt is only worked on the RS; the X-Bpt is only worked on the WS. They’re both a four-stitch combo made up of two pairs of post sts. The first pair is worked after skipping two sts. Then the second pair returns to work into those sk sts. NOTE: There is no change in the running st count; 1 post tr is worked into the 3rd (then 4th, then 1st, then 2nd) st from hook’s starting location.
  • Do not cut tails until the top is blocked. (They will need to stretch with the piece).
