SKILL LEVEL:
Adventurous Beginner - For crocheters who know basic stitches and are ready to learn basic shaping. Techniques include short rows, spike stitches, and an optional foundation single crochet beginning.
Notes from the Designer:
Simple single crochet stitches worked in short rows create long wedges separated by bands of mosaic stitches. This subtle shaping, combined with cotton-and-silk yarn, drapes beautifully around your shoulders as a cape, or around your hips as a wrap skirt. Customize the size by changing the number of wedges.
- Click the Videos Tab to watch a video showing how to crochet the wedge and mosaic sections.
- The sample shown used approximately 1,486 yds / 1,358 m total: Color A: 372 yds / 340 m, Color B: 382 yds / 349 m, Color C: 382 yds / 349 m, and Color D: 350 yds / 320 m.
- Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect yardage and size.
- The pattern uses four colors, but can be made with fewer or more if preferred.
- For a longer cape/skirt, add FSC in multiples of 5, and repeat Rows 3 and 4 of First Wedge once for each additional multiple of 5 stitches. For a shorter cape/skirt, reduce FSC in multiples of 5, and eliminate one repeat of Rows 3 and 4 of First Wedge for each reduction of 5 stitches. For a wider cape/skirt, work additional wedges. Be sure to purchase enough yarn to accommodate larger sizes.
