Notes From the Designer:

Think of this stole like looking through a telescope to see the wonders of the universe! A rectangular body in a neutral color serves as the background for patches of texture and variegated color peeking through the other side of the lenses, like stars in the night sky winking back at you.
•The body is knit in Stockinette stitch from side to side, with intentional holes, or lenses, of varying sizes placed throughout. The lenses are worked by binding off and casting on sts. After the body is complete, corresponding patches are worked in a simple textured stitch and sewn to the back side of the body, so the texture can be seen from the front.
•If working the body in a hand-dyed yarn, please remember to alternate skeins when possible to avoid color pooling.
•This piece was originally inspired by a Yellowcard song called “Telescope.” The chorus stirs up very specific imagery: “Let’s just keep driving on/All the stars jumping in through the window/Let’s go where we belong/Heading fast as we can for the unknown.” It’s one of my favorite songs, and always makes me think of night driving in the summer with the windows down, watching the stars. More abstractly, this piece makes me think of possibilities. Where will we go today? What will we see and do? Who will we be or become? When we look through the telescope at the vastness of the universe, what possibilities do we see for ourselves and each other? This piece is as simultaneously abstract and concrete as you want it to be. What does it inspire in you?
