SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate: This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/ concepts include provisional cast on, Italian Bind Off, ribbing, various simple cables, M1L, M1R, and reading charts.
Notes from the Designer:
Synchronicity is special to me because it showcases different designs that incorporate cables flowing into and synchronizing with each other. Cables are my personal favorite thing to knit, and they are super easy to do. Adding them into this pattern helps to show that anyone can knit cables, even if they may intimidate you at first!
This blanket is created by knitting the center section of the blanket in a gradient of ten colors. Then, stitches are picked up along each edge to knit the border in ribbing with the last two colors. The colors are held four strands at a time to make the blanket thicker and warmer.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video tutorial demonstrating how to marl colors and make two equally sized center-pull balls from one hank.
- You must be able to read charts to knit this pattern.
- The main part of the blanket is worked flat. First, you will start with a provisional cast on, and knit the main blanket in the gradient and cable patterns. Then with the live stitches still on your needles, you will pick up stitches along the selvedge edges and the provisional cast on to knit the border. The border is worked in the round from the inside out. Once finished with the border, you will bind off using an Italian Bind Off.
- If you do not have a circular needle that is long enough to work the border, you can knit the border in two parts (one short and one long side at once), and use the Mattress Stitch to connect the edges together at the corners.
- To knit with four strands of the same yarn color at the same time, wind the yarn into cakes, and split them in half. Then, use one strand from the inside and one strand from the outside of each cake. Alternatively, you can split each skein of yarn into four cakes/balls.
