SIZE:

66” L x 24” W  (168 cm x 61 cm), blocked

MATERIALS:

Expression Fiber Arts Luster Sport yarn

Shown in Quiet Hues Luster Sport Kit [395 yds/361 m per skein (1,580 yds/ 1,444 m per four-skein kit)]; Colors worked from darkest to lightest.

The sample used nearly all the yarn in the yarn kit.

If those colors aren't available, any from this category will work.

HOOK:

US size E-4 (3.5 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge

SKILL LEVEL:

Adventurous Beginner: This pattern is suitable for crocheters who are ready to combine basic stitches in new ways. Techniques include short rows, working in back or front loops only, and an optional foundation single crochet beginning.

Notes from the Designer:

A standard crocheted ripple stitch gains extra movement with short rows that create wedges of undulations reminiscent of sand waves in sea beds. Each wedge has a simple two-row repeat, alternating between rows of single crochet and double crochet stitches. Working some rows into back loops only and others into both loops adds even more texture. The last row of each wedge smoothes out the short rows with stair-stepped stitch lengths at each transition. Although the pattern appears intricate, it's really a simple combination of basic stitches.

  • The sample shown used approximately 1,577 yds / 1,442 m total: Color A: 394 yds / 360 m, Color B: 394 yds / 360 m, Color C: 394 yds / 360 m, and Color D: 395 yds / 361 m.
  • Gauge is crucial to this project and will affect yardage and size. We recommend checking your gauge often throughout the making of your project.
  • This sample used almost every inch of each skein, so you will need to reclaim any yardage used for a gauge swatch.
  • To work gauge swatch, work 34 FSC. (Alternatively, ch 35, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across). Work Rows 1 and 2 of First Wedge for 16 rows.
  • After you have made your gauge swatch and if you are concerned about running out of yarn, you can always decrease your hook size to help ensure you do not run out of yarn, but this may affect your project’s dimensions.
  • Pattern uses four colors, but can be made with fewer or more if preferred.
  • For a longer wrap, add FSC in multiples of 17. For a wider wrap, work additional wedges in multiples of 2. Be sure to purchase enough yarn to accommodate increased sizes.
  • Throughout the pattern you will be either working in the front loops only, the back loops only, or through both loops of certain stitches.
