Notes from the Designer:
Splendid is a wonderful, boomerang-shaped shawl. This shawl has a brilliant appearance with the movement of a solid color through contrasting color stripes. Drape Splendid around the shoulders like a shawl and pin in place, or wrap it around your neck like a cozy scarf.
Splendid features a four-row repeat, and the only difference between the row repeats is how they begin and end. Alternating double and single crochet stitches in each row brings in just the slightest bit of texture. This shawl was designed to really let the yarn colors themselves shine. The solid stitch pattern, along with the varying widths of the stripes, allows for strong contrast colors to stand out nicely.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video that demonstrates how to crochet this shawl.
- The Version 1 sample used approximately 910 yds/832 m total: Color A: 600 yds/549 m and Color B: 310 yds/283 m.
- The Version 2 sample used approximately 857 yds/784 m total: Color A: 304 yds/278 m, Color B: 350 yds/320 m, and Color C: 203 yds/186 m. Gauge is important in this version of the shawl. Use Color C to make your gauge swatch.
- The shawl is worked from a narrow point and widens.
- Increases are worked in each row along one edge of the shawl.
- Decreases are worked every other row on the opposite edge of the increases. This creates a boomerang shape to the shawl.
- When the pattern indicates to change color, carry the unused color up the side, and pick it back up when needed next.
- When changing to the new color, twist the two strands around each other, and then pick up the new color.
- Any section of the shawl can be worked with more rows than stated.
