Notes from the Designer:
Knit with two strands of Yak Silk Lace yarn held together, Skating is a lush, warm blanket with exquisite drape. I drew inspiration for this design from lyrics in Joni Mitchell's song River. The lyric says, ”I wish I had a river I could skate away on.” Diagonal lines of seed stitch mimic skate tracings on a frozen river. This design lends itself to using several colors of yarn and allowing them to blend one into the next. A slim seed stitch border surrounds the main body of the blanket. This is a perfect beginner project or an excellent easier project for the more experienced knitter. The pattern is easily memorized, making it a perfect on-the-go project!
- The sample shown used approximately 2,733 yds/2,500 m total: Color A: 460 yds/421 m, Color B: 608 yds/556 m, Color C: 608 yds/556 m, Color D: 608 yds/556 m, and Color E: 460 yds/421 m.
- IMPORTANT: Read through the entire pattern before casting on to ensure you know when to change colors and work the repeats.
- Yarn is held double throughout pattern. Make sure that you pick up and wrap both strands around your knitting needle.
- I suggest winding each skein into two cakes of yarn to help with the color changes.
- Each color block is a total of 50 rows. There will be a total of nine color blocks in the blanket for a total of 450 rows.
- The diagonal seed stitch pattern restarts every 54 rows in the main body.
- To make the main body pattern wider, cast on more stitches in multiples of 10. To make the blanket longer, work more repeats. Increasing the size will increase the amount of yarn needed.
