Notes from the Designer:

Polaris is a circular shawl inspired by the North Star. The North Star has been brightening the night sky and giving direction to explorers for millennia, and I hope this shawl helps to bring a little brightness to your life. Crocheted in the round, the design is worked from the center out, creating the star first.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a video tutorial demonstrating how to crochet the center star.
  • In the sample, Colors A - E were used from the lightest blue to the darkest blue.
  • The sample shown used approximately 1,155 yds/1,056 m total: Color A: 240 yds/220 m and Colors B - E: 225 yds/206 m EACH.
  • The pattern is crocheted in the round with the right side facing you.
  • Starting chains on each round are not considered a stitch. Each chain after is considered a stitch.
  • The first stitch of each round is the stitch that was sl st into to end the previous round.
  • Make sure chains are loose enough to have stitches worked into them comfortably. All stitches will be worked into the chains, unless otherwise stated.
  • Stitch count is given at the end of each round or at the last round worked at the end of a repeat.
