Notes from the Designer:
Petra tou Romiou is a rock formation along the southwestern coast of the island of Cyprus, and it is one of my favorite sites to see and visit. This rock is said to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. According to Greek mythology, Aphrodite stepped out of the sea foam onto the rocky beach. Seashells are sacred to Aphrodite, and the beads in this design reminded me of the beautiful pebbles on the shore.
This pattern is offered in two versions: a beginner version without beads and an intermediate version, shown with beads and a beaded trim. As you crochet, I hope you are transported to a place where you love to relax and feel at ease.
- Pattern is a multiple of 10+3.
- Pattern is offered in two versions: an optional beginner version (not shown here) without beads and the intermediate version shown here in the pattern photos.
- Turning ch-4 counts as 1 dc and ch-1 space throughout. You will work into the 3rd chain (top of the dc portion) on the subsequent row. Use a stitch marker to make this chain easier to identify.
- When working into a ch stitch, insert hook under the top two loops. If you work around only one loop, the stitch will become stretched out and will lose integrity.
- Beads are only placed on RS rows.
- You will use only one bead color at a time for five or six consecutive repeats. Follow instructions on when to change to another color bead.
- Beaded trim is optional. If omitting the trim, it is still advised to complete Trim Set-Up Rows S1 - S2 to even out the top edge.
- Click here to watch a tutorial on how to work the beaded edge.
