Notes From the Designer:

You’ll feel like royalty every time you wear this large, semi-circular shawl that looks more complicated to knit than it actually is! A simple slip stitch pattern worked in two colors on larger needles gives a feeling of depth to this piece, and a Japanese lace edging adds a fun but elegant flourish to the hem.

•Shawl begins with a garter tab CO and is shaped by increasing only at the edges, so there is no center spine to interrupt the flow of the texture pattern.

•When working the body in 2 colors, color A will be the dominant color, while color B will add depth from the background. If you prefer to work the body in one color, you certainly can: the focus will be more on texture than color and will create a subtle accessory that can be worn anywhere.

•After completion of the body, a small number of sts are CO to work the sideways edging. I recommend working the edging on a needle one size larger than you used for the body, to allow the edging to stretch and drape properly. The edging can be worked in a third color, as shown, in one of the two body colors, or the entire shawl can be worked in one color. As always, there is room in the color selection to make a piece that is truly yours.

•When I named this piece, I had been replaying one of my favorite video games, Tales of Xillia. I don’t often have time to play, but sometimes I like to go back to a game with a good storyline. This piece is named after one of the main characters, Milla Maxwell. Milla loses nearly everything she knows throughout the game, but chooses to build something new for those around her, and in the end becomes a new Milla. At the time, the name just sounded good, but perhaps it’s also an unwitting metaphor for us all?
