Notes from the Designer:

One of my favorite things about cold weather is the yummy, warm beverages you can only find during the winter season. The combination of peppermint, chocolate, and coffee is quite spectacular and always brings to mind fond memories of days gone by when I would go to a coffee shop with my mom and enjoy her company. Now that I'm older, married, and a mother myself, it's much harder to find time to sit and socialize on my own, but I still enjoy a good cup of coffee with a scoop of hot chocolate mixed in.

When designing this sweater, I was thinking about cozy, winter things like blankets, watching snow from a window, and festive mugs and decided to call this sweater Koffie, which is Dutch for “coffee.” The sweater is knit top down and in the round, so the length is customizable. There are instructions for optional waist shaping, too. The charts are adapted from Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Vol. 3, ed. by Carla Scott. I hope you enjoy this simple, yet elegant sweater.

  • This sweater is worked top down in the round, so there is no seaming or grafting involved with the circular yoke construction.
  • Once you get to the body of the sweater, be sure to try it on as you go to check the length, so it's just right for you.
  • Directions are given for a multicolor and an optional two-color version of the pattern. The two-color version is not shown, but you'll need 5 (5, 6, 6) (7, 7, 7) skeins or approx. 820 (900, 1020, 1070) (1120, 1170, 1220) yds of MC in Enduring Worsted and one skein or approx. 105 (115, 125, 135) (145, 155, 165) yds of CC.
  • For the multicolor version, the CC yarn was held double throughout. The multicolor sample was worked with the following color transitions:
    • Chart A: 2 strands of Color A were used for 6 rounds and then 1 strand of Color A with 1 strand of Color B for 6 rounds.
    • Chart B: 2 strands of Color B were used for 6 rounds and then 1 strand of Color B with 1 strand of Color C for 6 rounds.
    • Chart C: 2 strands of Color C were used for 5 rounds and then 1 strand of Color C with 1 strand of Color D for 6 rounds.
    • Chart D: 2 strands of Color D were used for 3 rounds and then 1 strand of Color D with 1 strand of Color E for 4 rounds and then 2 strands of Color E for 3 rounds and then 1 strand of Color E with 1 strand of Color F for 4 rounds.
