Expression Fiber Arts Luster Sport and Luster Sport Mini yarn

Sample shown in: MC1) Sparkling Moment, MC2) Bright Delight, and CC 1-12) Happiness Hues 12-skein Luster Sport Mini Kit

US size 6 (4 mm) 32" (80 cm) or longer circular needles 

SKILL LEVEL:

Adventurous Beginner - This pattern is for those knitters who are comfortable with basic knit stitches and are ready to learn some new skills. Skills/concepts include garter tab cast on, slipped stitches, and basic increases.  

Notes from the Designer:

Kamalak means "rainbow" in the Uzbek language. This semicircular shawl features simple slipped stitches across many colors, creating both vertical and horizontal stripes. The shawl begins with a garter tab at the top center and progresses from simple increases and stockinette stitch to garter stitch and slipped stitches. Colors change only at the end of a row. Just six increase rows are spaced throughout the body so that you can enjoy playing with colors without worrying about an ever-changing stitch count.

• Gauge is not crucial to this project, but will affect yardage and size.
• The pattern uses 14 colors but can be made with fewer if preferred. Total yards / meters used for our sample: approximately 980 yds / 890 m (MC1: 382 yds / 349 m, MC2: 250 yds / 229 m, CC: 29 yds / 26 m each).
• The shawl begins with a Garter Tab Cast On. Instructions for this method are included in Special Stitches on page 4, and you can watch a video tutorial for this technique here.
• All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise.
