NEEDLE:

US size 8 (5.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge; circular or straight

Circular will help hold the weight better, but the piece is knitted flat.

US size 2.5 (3.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge (for sleeves only); circular (16" / 40 cm) if sleeves will be knit in the round; straight if sleeves will be knit flat 

SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate - This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include provisional cast on, reading charts, cables, and mattress stitch. You will need to know how to read charts to knit this design.

Notes from the Designer:

Interlaced is a sweater scarf pattern that is suitable for a variety of knitters, both new and experienced. Made from cables and fun textures, it is very rewarding and pleasing to knit. The name, Interlaced, comes from the connectedness of the cables. I personally love designing and knitting items with cables because they never fail to look so beautiful in the final piece.

The simple nature of the pattern, combined with the intriguing textures, makes it beautiful to work in a variety of colors. If you want, you can knit the sleeves in an alternate color to the scarf, but I made them the same color for the sample.

• Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to work the provisional cast on, mattress stitch, and cables that are featured in this pattern.
• You will start the sweater scarf with a provisional cast on. These stitches will be picked up later for that side's sleeve. You will knit the whole scarf portion (knitted flat), and then knit the two sleeves from the live stitches on each end (knitted either in the round or flat and seamed). Instructions are given for both methods.
• The sleeves are intended to go from your wrists to just above your elbow. They are intended to fit snug, so they stay up on your arms. The sleeves have 2" (5 cm) negative ease built into them, but this can be altered if desired.
• In the middle of the chart, the cables will touch each other, but not cross. This creates a small hole in this area. If you want the hole to be smaller, you can redistribute the extra yarn to nearby stitches.
• If your yarn will stretch (or not) when blocking, make sure you account for this when deciding what yarn to use and how long to make the scarf and sleeves. The pattern is based off the blocked measurements in the recommended yarn.
