Notes from the Designer:

Horology is the study and measurement of time. I have always been fascinated by clocks and timekeeping beginning in my school days when I learned how various ancient cultures used water clocks to track the passage of time. Inspired by a repeating lace pattern called Ginkgo Leaves and knitted with the Zodiac Hues Luster Sport Mini Kit, this pattern will hopefully delight you for many hours to come.

  • Click the Videos tab to watch as I show you how to knit this shawl, including how to add beads.
  • The sample shown used approximately 1966 yds/1798 m total: Color A: 175 yds/160 m, Color B: 168 yds/154 m, Colors C J: 160 yds/146 m each, Color K: 168 yds/154 m, and Color L: 175 yds/ 160 m. Avoid using Colors A, B, K, or L when making your gauge swatch.
  • The sample was knit using the colors in this order: magenta, dark red, red, orange, yellow, green, light blue-green, teal, dark blue, blue, cool violet, and warm purple.
  • Tip: Before you begin, tag and weigh each skein with the color you want to use, so you don't mix them up.
  • The weights on the mini skeins are approximate and will vary. Most skeins range between 1.6 oz– 1.9 oz (45–55 grams) each. If you have a skein that is smaller, you can adjust the number of rows you work before you change colors.
  • The pattern is easily adjustable. The lace body is a multiple of 18 + 1 stitches. Adjust the number of CO stitches for a wider or narrower item. Add or subtract repeats to adjust the length.
  • The beads are optional and can be omitted. You can also choose to reduce the number of beaded rows per section, if you desire.
  • There is a five-stitch garter stitch border on the sides.
  • Placing additional stitch markers between the repeats will make counting easier. Just slip the markers as you come to them.
  • If you do not wish to add beads to your work, work the K2tog+B stitch as a k2tog only.
