Notes From the Designer:

Florescence means ‘to bloom.’ The main inspiration for this shawl is a blooming flower. Some petals in a closed flower can still be seen but are condensed together. The edging of this shawl represents a closed flower finally blooming into its most beautiful state. When paired with the yarn used, you may just feel like you are wrapped in the petals of a flower.

This shawl is a two-row repeat after a few setup rows. The shawl can be worked to the stated number of rows or to a desired number of rows for a custom size. Once the repeat rows are complete, an edging of just two rows is then worked to finalize the shawl. The beading on the very last row is easier than you think.

  • Click the video tab to watch a mini version of this shawl being made, including adding the beads.
  • Each row begins with a Stacked Treble Crochet Stitch (beg tr). See Special Stitches above on how to work this stitch.
  • Parentheses ( ) indicate a group of stitches worked all in the same stitch or space.
  • Two increases are added to the even numbered rows within the Repeat Rows section. A stitch marker may be helpful to keep track of whether you are on an even numbered repeat row.
  • Seed beads are added to the last row. Follow the steps below to add beads to the edging of the shawl:
    1. Using a size 0.75 mm crochet hook or any size that will fit through the bead, place the bead on the small hook.
    2. With bead on the hook, put the hook through the working yarn loop.
    3. Pull the loop through the bead.
    4. Put down the small hook, grab the larger hook, and continue working the pattern as written.
