Notes from the Designer:
Cumulus is a quick weekend knit project that adds interest and excitement to your wardrobe. This top features sections of simple openwork stitches and basic drop stitches with a combination of Garter Stitch and Stockinette Stitch backgrounds designed to keep things interesting while you knit.
Simple seaming creates an open shoulder design that can be easily altered for those who wish to make their tee in a more traditional style. Slit seams on each side and a longer length on the back make this a fun and flirty piece that is perfect for layering as temperatures fluctuate. In keeping with the customization theme of this design, I have included eight sizes, ranging from bust size 32” (81 cm) to bust size 60” (152.5 cm) with 2” (5 cm) of positive ease.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a video tutorial showing how to seam this top using the mattress stitch.
- The samples shown are size Small on 34” (86 cm) bust and were cropped to 18” (46 cm) long in the front and 19” (48.5 cm) in the back. Rows can be omitted or added to suit your desired fit.
- Rectangular pieces are knit flat from the bottom up and then seamed together using the mattress stitch with guidance from the schematic diagrams included in this pattern.
- When working with hand-dyed yarns, I strongly recommend alternating yarns every couple rows to blend colors and minimize pooling and striping. Watch this video showing how to do so.
- Gauge is VERY crucial to this project and should be checked often.
- Before you begin, it is advised that you go through the pattern, and circle the directions for your selected size.
