SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate: This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include: ch, sc, hdc, dc, tr, FPdc, BPdc, sl st, working in flo and blo, and other special stitches.
Notes from the Designer:
Crystalline is a top-down crescent shawl worked in thirteen colors, each surrendering to the next — the way light changes in winter, imperceptibly until it isn't. Starting in the silver half-light of a winter in progress, moving through the deep grey of frozen ground and out through sunset reds, warm gold and earth, before arriving, finally, at the cold blues where the story began.
The crescent shape drapes beautifully over the shoulders, wrapping you in winter like an embrace you didn't know you needed. Snowflake stitches are scattered through the fabric. There is a particular kind of love that knows it cannot hold on, but recognizes that things do not end, they only change.

- The sample shown used approximately 2,400 yds/2,200 m total: Color A: 180 yds/165 m, Color B: 175 yds/160 m, Color C: 175 yds/160 m, Color D: 190 yds/175 m, Color E: 185 yds/170 m, Color F: 185 yds/170 m, Color G: 195 yds/180 m, Color H: 200 yds/180 m, Color I: 190 yds/175 m, Color J: 190 yds/175 m, Color K: 180 yds/165 m, Color L: 195 yds/180 m, and Color M: 160 yds/145 m.
- Hand-dyed silk, particularly in deeply saturated colors, may release excess dye during washing. Test for colorfastness and consider pre-rinsing skeins before winding.
- Always work in next st unless indicated otherwise; always sk ch-sps unless indicated otherwise.
- Csdc can be substituted with a ch 3 or other preferred method to start each dc row.
- When working FPdc and BPdc, raise lps to working row height to prevent sts being too tight. Be cautious not to make them too loose, or you may run out of yarn early. At the correct tension, a 4" square in Alpine Stitch is about 30 sts x 28 rows unblocked and 26 sts x 24 rows blocked.
