SKILL LEVEL:

Intermediate – This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include herringbone stitch, garment shaping, and construction.

Notes from the Designer:

This oversized cardigan is called Caitri. Caitri (KAY-TREE) is the name of a dear cousin of mine and is short for Caitriona. Caitriona has Gaelic background and means “pure.” The definition of pure is "without any extraneous and unnecessary elements.” The herringbone stitch adds just a bit of fun to the design and helps keep you interested as you crochet. The front pockets help ensure that Caitri easily becomes the cardigan you want to wrap yourself up in all the time. Simple, pure, and perfectly cozy!

  • Click the Videos tab to watch a video about 10 spectacular sweaters you can crochet right now.
  • Starting chain does not count as first stitch unless stated otherwise within the pattern.
  • The pattern is worked in panels, and each panel is worked in rows. The panels are then sewn together to create the cardigan. Front trim is added after everything is constructed.
  • Pattern is worked in a multiple of 2.
  • Garment has 4-5" (10-12.5 cm) of positive ease.
  • The cardigan length should fall right at the thigh. For more length, add more rows to the two front panels and the back panel, making sure they are all the same length.
  • When using hand-dyed yarn, alternate 2 or 3 skeins every 1 to 2 rows.
  • Work the last stitch of each row of ribbed trim in both loops for a nice, clean, and even edge.
  • Use a stitch marker to keep track of row numbers.
  • Pattern is written in smallest size with additional sizes in parentheses as follows: XS (S, M, L) (XL, 2X, 3X) (4X, 5X). Final stitch count for all sizes is in parentheses at the end of each row or round. If only one stitch count is given, it is for all sizes.
