Notes From the Designer:

•When I started thinking about this project, I immediately thought of the beach. Walking along the shore with my feet in the water, wind whipping my hair around. I like the beach during the off season, when no one is around, but it can get a little chilly. This shawl/cardigan/wrap/open front tee/what-have-you is perfect for the beach, or a heavily air-conditioned office.

•Stockinette on the back panels keeps you warm, a little lace on the front panels adds a nice focal point (and makes me think of ocean and sky), and a hint of trim at the armholes and neckline makes for a colorful touch without going crazy.

•Seamed at the back and sides, with a three-needle BO at the shoulders and some easy trim work, this is a great piece for knitters just starting to explore garment construction without jumping into a full sweater.

•The name is a conglomeration of two things I was thinking about while knitting this piece. I was picturing myself at the beach, but also listening to a 90s alternative song called "Free" by The Martinis. "So free for the moment/that's somewhere between the earth and the sky. So free for the moment/that's because I wanna be lost/don't try to find me." I always think of the beach when I hear those lines, because the horizon where ocean meets sky seems like the perfect actualization of that song. The name stuck.

Errata: The CO for squares C and D should both be 104 sts.
