Notes from the Designer:
One of my favorite times of the year is in early Spring when the sun is shining in a clear, blue sky, and I notice the flowers beginning to awaken. Those days are a reminder of the continuous opportunities to change our path and grow into a better version of ourselves. Wishing to evoke that same hopeful sense of renewal, I chose lacy crochet stitches that are worked in bright colors for this shawl. Choose any colors that bring you joy!
The crescent shape begins in the center and radiates outward in bands of floral stitch patterns. Options are given for alternative uses of colors.
- Click the Videos tab to watch a tutorial on how to crochet the buds, puffs, and puff bouquet.
- The sample shown used approximately 1,315 yds/1,203 m total: Color A: 180 yds/165 m, Color B: 355 yds/325 m, Color C: 195 yds/178 m, Color D: 215 yds/197 m, and Color E: 370 yds/339 m.
- This shawl MUST be blocked in order to achieve the proper shape. Please keep that in mind when choosing yarn.
- Checking gauge is critical to ensure that you do not run out of Colors B and E. Do not be surprised if you need to go down one or even two hook sizes to get the same gauge as the designer.
- Section 7 (Color E) uses most of the skein and can vary greatly depending on the amount of “puff” in your stitches. If you run short on yardage, the last two rows may be omitted without changing the look of the shawl.
- During testing, some of the testers exceeded the yardage for Color B. If you run short on Color B, Color A or Color C may be substituted in Section 6. You may also wish to order a second skein.
- Change color in the last stitch of a section by adding the new color when drawing through the last loop(s). Work to the last “yo and draw through loop(s) on hook”. Yarn over with the new yarn, and complete the stitch.
- Although RS and WS are designated in the instructions, this is a reversible design.
