Notes from the Designer:
Embark on a 12-month crochet adventure as you craft the Arcoiris MCAL. Arcoiris, the Spanish word for “rainbow,” perfectly describes this project's journey through a continuous spectrum of hues, representing all the colors of the rainbow. The process begins with a foundation of bold texture, structurally linked to the next clue via a unique, two-color transition section. Your journey will take you through a diverse range of stitchwork, exploring both delicate lacework and rich, dimensional texture. Midway, the construction shifts to a new panel that introduces ornate, flowing designs before building to deep, autumnal texture. Finally, the project culminates with a dimensional, geometric piece worked in the round before the three sections are united and crowned with a final embellishment.
This project is stitched using Wishglow Sport yarn, a heavenly two-ply blend of 50% Superwash Fine Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk. This light and airy yarn provides an unbelievably soft, shimmering glow and supple drape, making it a joy to work with for a flowing shawl.

- The shawl used approximately 2,610 yds (2,385 m) total – C1: 195 yds (179 m), C2: 142 yds (130 m), C3: 149 yds (137 m), C4: 276 yds (252 m), C5: 180 yds (165 m), C6: 207 yds (189 m), C7: 184 yds (168 m), C8: 182 yds (166 m), C9: 226 yds (207 m), C10: 230 yds (210 m), C11: 326 yds (298 m), and C12: 314 yds (287 m). These yardages only include the amounts used in the clues themselves. Extra yardage used as colorwork will be specified in the respective clue notes.
- VERY IMPORTANT: You will need to keep the leftover partial skeins, as you will need some of them later in the pattern.
- Arcoiris is a design that consists of four pieces that come together to create a beautiful shawl with a unique shape. First, you will work two rectangular panels that differ in every section, but will match in size and dimensions. Next, you will create a center square that ties together the three parts. You will finish the shawl off with a sophisticated edging, which is worked over four of the six edges. Each clue is unique and differs in texture, construction, and stitch pattern. The project is designed to use a new stitch pattern in every clue to make it challenging, but also fun.
- Clues 1-10 are interchangeable. If the instructions of a clue are too challenging, you can substitute it with a previous clue at any time.
- Yarn ends in Clues 1 - 10 will not all be on the same side. Don’t be alarmed if you’re weaving them in on opposite ends.
- Please make sure to carefully read every clue’s specific note before starting each clue.
- Because I am a tight crocheter, I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete the design and reach the desired measurements.
- Gauge is crucial to this project, since some clues use almost all of the yardage given in a skein. Please make sure to be on gauge to not run out of yarn.
- Each clue’s notes include unblocked and blocked clue measurements, as well as gauge details. These are mainly for you to keep track of tension while working on your clues and to avoid running out of yarn. Please adjust your crochet hook size up or down if you significantly deviate from the specified numbers. The gauge of each clue is given in repeats x rows. Measure 1 pattern repeat, and divide 4 by this number. This will give you the number of repeats in 4”.
- You will block both panels and the center square together after Clue 11. Be advised that Clues 1 - 5 and 6 - 10 need to have the same final dimensions, including the edges of Clue 11, so that everything fits seamlessly together.
- The pattern uses 12 colors, but can be made with more or fewer, if preferred.
- Stacked single crochets (stsc) count as a stitch throughout the pattern. You can choose to use a ch 2 at the beginning of rows/rounds instead of a stacked single crochet. If using the ch 2 at the beginning of rows, it does NOT count as a stitch throughout the pattern unless otherwise indicated. First double crochet will go into stitch containing ch 2.
- The pattern includes written instructions, as well as charts for each clue.
