Notes from the Designer:

Anidando is Spanish for “nesting.” I designed this hat with my brother-in-law, who went through a rough patch in life, in mind. I wanted to remind him that the simple things in life are important. I wanted to evoke the feeling of a simple nest where one feels safe and protected, like a bird in its nest, made out of interwoven twigs and wool. This hat – simple in design and stitch – creates this warm and homey feeling. The Interlocking Stitch creates a neutral design that suits everybody. Even though it might look a bit challenging, it is an easy stitch that uses basic crochet stitches, such as chains, single crochets, and double crochets.

• The sample shown used approximately 461 yds/421 m total.
• This pattern is worked in rows. Each row ends with a ch1 before turning your work. This ch1 does not count as a stitch. This means your first sc for the next row goes in the first stitch of the row.
• You can place a stitch marker in the first and last stitch of the row to help see where to place the stitch.
• The first time you work Row 2, add a stitch marker halfway through to mark the RS of your work.
• Due to the pattern design, you will need to measure your head in centimeters. To measure your head, start at the back of your head at the edge of your skull at top of your neck. Go around your head, over your ear, over middle of brow, over other ear, and connect your measuring tape at top of your neck.
• Once you have your head circumference in cm, deduct 5 cm for negative ease. For example, if your head circumference is 61 cm, deduct 5 cm for negative ease (61 cm - 5 cm = 56 cm). Next, using the pattern gauge on page 3, calculate as follows: 10 cm = 22 sts (gauge). Take the adjusted circumference measurement (56 cm), and divide by 10 cm to get 5.6. Then, multiply 22 by 5.6 (or your number) to get 123 sts. You may need to round up or down to the closest uneven number of stitches.
