Notes from the Designer:

Every so often, an idea comes around that allows the yarn to do all of the talking. Fadeling is such an idea. The simple linen stitch pattern gives voice to beautiful yarn and allows a carefully chosen colorway to do what it does best. The intermingling rib at the center of the featured color gives a chance for each hue to show off individually before fading back into the next color.

This simple and meditative cowl pattern will work up like a dream in your hands, and the continual color changes will hold your interest until the very last stitches. Slip your hands into something comfortable and beautiful. Let’s craft!

  • There are many color changes in this pattern. Due to the yarn weight and number of strands, I don’t recommend carrying the yarn except in a few sections where the color change reaches the turnaround (color change from B to A to B and from C to D to C).
  • The colors in the yarn kit were worked from lightest (A) to darkest (D) in the sample shown here.
  • The linen stitch is a 2-stitch repeat, but it is worked over an odd number of stitches for a seamless transition across rounds. The last stitch of every round will then necessarily be only half a stitch, and the second half of the stitch will be the first stitch of the following round. On a practical level, this doesn’t change how the stitch is worked from round to round in the linen stitch sections. For the sake of brevity, this last stitch is not notated within the pattern itself.
