SIZES:

XS (S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X), which correspond to bust sizes of 47-49 (51-53, 55-57, 58-61, 63-65, 67-69, 71-73, 75-77, 79-81)"

This kimono has 15"-19" of positive ease to allow for a beachy, flowy drape.

MATERIALS:

Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk DK yarn

Shown in color Feather Blue Alpaca Silk DK

Depending on the size you make, you'll need 600 - 1500 yds (549 - 1372 m) of DK weight yarn.

If that color isn't available, any from this category will work.

HOOK:

Use the appropriate hook size for your chosen yarn weight. A 4.5 mm hook was used for the sample shown here, which is a Large.

SKILL LEVEL:

Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate – If you're comfortable with basic stitches like chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet, you're ready for this project. Skills include basic crochet stitches, cluster stitches, basic garment construction and sizing, and simple seaming.

Notes from the Designer:

Ariel is a fun addition to any wardrobe! Simple lines and eye-catching lace make it an interesting statement piece. Minimal shaping and sewing makes it perfect for the confident beginner. It’s a hybrid pattern, which means it’s made to measure, but also has stitch count suggestions for sizes. So grab your favorite yarn and hook with a measuring tape to start!

You can easily adapt this for any size. Make it as long (or short) as you’d like. Say "hello" to a billowing beach coverup or a sweet, cropped piece to wear with your favorite, summer dresses.

  • This pattern will be available on our website only for a limited time.
  • As this is a pattern with made-to-measure options and elements, please take a moment to read through the entire pattern before starting.
  • The sample shown here is a size Large and used approximately 1,150 yards of Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk DK yarn.
  • This design begins by making one large panel of lace. Once the determined length is achieved, you'll turn your work upside down and start working smaller panels for the front sections. This makes it possible to only have two seams. Finish it all off by sewing the sides together. Add an optional picot edging to give it a little extra shine!
  • This pattern includes written and charted instructions, photo tutorials, schematics, and tips and tricks.
  • Lace is notorious for opening up after wearing. To determine the true size of your lace panel, you may wish to make a gauge swatch in the lace pattern and lightly block it.
  • This kimono has 15"-19" of positive ease to allow for a beachy, flowy drape.
  • While this is a made-to-measure pattern and gauge isn’t crucial, it’s important to make a swatch to see if you like the drape of your yarn with your chosen hook size.
