This pattern is designed for use with 1-2 skeins of our Resilient Sock Yarn in colorway: Ocean Mist. Choose any color you like, though. You'll need US Size 1 (2.25 mm) needles. You can use DPNs, a 9" circular or longer circular needle for the Magic Loop method. Whatever you feel most comfortable with.
About These Socks:
•Right twists intertwine to form a loose braid that runs down the front and back of these Western-inspired socks. Knit a pair for yourself and unleash your inner cowboy or cowgirl!
•Socks are worked cuff down with a heel flap and stitches are picked up for the gusset.
•Sample shown was knit in size S for a size US 5.5 foot and used approximately 320 yds of yarn from a 400 yd skein. Right Twists and cables eat a lot of yarn. If knitting for a longer foot or wider circumference, you may want to give serious thought to picking up a second skein of yarn so you don't end up playing yarn chicken on your second sock, especially if your gauge is different.
•These were inspired in part by the cable pattern, in part by the brilliant blue color used in the sample that immediately takes my mind to Big Sky Country, and in part by the tv show, which takes place on a cattle ranch just outside Laramie, WY. Normally I knit my socks on a US size 2 needle, which gives me a comfortable padding around the house gauge. With this pattern, I decided to go down to a size 1 needle for a firmer gauge, and throw in some extra Right Twist columns between the cable panels to make the sock more snug and hardwearing. I thought that if a cattle rancher was to wear a pair of handknit socks, they'd want more of a workhorse sock that wouldn't fall down in the boot or pill, but the sock should still have some flair.
•I'd like to think that these socks walk the line between workhorse and fashion, and could be proudly worn by any cowgirl or boy.
