Intermediate - This pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include increases and decreases, cluster stitches, and beading.

Notes from the Designer:

The Golden Hour is the period of time when the sun is low above the horizon; direct sunlight softens into beautiful, golden, diffused light. This shawl was inspired by that beautiful, warm glow of light that bathes the earth until sunset. This is reflected in the gradient color scheme along with a ripple of textural stitches and tiny sparkles of beads to catch the light. Create your own golden hour to work on this piece, free of stressors and distractions. Remember, although the golden hour may be fleeting each day, you will have the opportunity to live in that moment again tomorrow.

• It is important to use good quality beads for this project. Pre-stringing beads puts extra friction on your yarn and could cause damage if not done with care and using smooth beads. Glass beads, especially Czech and Japanese glass beads, are well suited for this project.
• This pattern is knit in five repeating sections. You will need to pre-string beads for each new section as you come to it, before you start using the new color.
• When you introduce the second color in a section, you will carry the unused color up the side until you are instructed to break it.
• Each section will need at most 100 pre-strung beads. It’s better to err on the side of caution and string a few extra beads as opposed to too few, in case you miscount. Be aware: once the beads are strung, you will not be able to add more beads to that section without cutting your yarn.
• Ensure that the pre-strung beads are not suspended in the air as you knit. Pull enough yarn through, so you may rest the beads on the table, in your lap, in your yarn bowl, etc. as you knit and not put additional tension on your yarn.
• As you work on this piece, it is possible that the beads may shift slightly on the stitch they were knitted into, especially if you have looser tension. When finishing your piece, you can gently shift the beads back into place if needed.
